There is so much to do from our holiday home. Here are some ideas for great days out in the area. Surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty, don't forget to leave time for Felixstowe itself. See a bunch of ideas below, browse the photos and explore the links. You may also wish to visit popular neighbouring attractions such as Woodbridge and Snape Maltings. With aviation museums and even skydiving the sky really is the limit!
Dedham Vale - Constable Country
A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Dedham Vale inspired many of Constables famous landscapes. It is just half an hour away by car on the border between Essex and Suffolk and centres on the river Stour. Explore the official website and consider following a walk from the National Trust or this walk from the Guardian. You might want to explore this highly rated vineyard while you're there.
In the area there's Colchester Zoo, Colchester Castle Park and, if you're looking for something more active, a 5* rated canoe and bike hire.
Suffolk Coast and Heaths
The Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a stunning landscape packed full with wildlife and exciting places to explore and discover.
There's something for everyone with 155 square miles of tranquil and unspoilt landscape including wildlife-rich estuaries, ancient heaths, windswept shingle beaches and historic towns and villages.

Don't miss Suffolk's other major attractions, including Greene King Brewery (no.1 for Suffolk on tripadvisor!), There's a host of boat tours up and down the Suffolk coast, including the Orwell river cruise just 10 miles from us.
Stay Local - Explore Felixstowe
Make sure you explore Felixstowe. Enjoy the 2 miles of promenade, enjoyed since the nineteenth century (see photo!). Look out for the stunning new Victorian style seafront gardens, which have enjoyed heavy investment.
A very enjoyable short walk from our front door is the Landguard Peninsula. This boasts the Landguard Fort, site of the last opposed seaborne invasion of England in 1667 and the first land battle of the Royal Marines. Nearby is the bird observatory and the small but 5* Felixstowe museum.
